Kenny Dalglish is expecting and hoping that Celtic pull the finger out in the closing week of the transfer window to start delivering the signings that Brendan Rodgers needs.
Celtic have added many names to the manager’s squad this summer but few, if any, are outright improving on the starting eleven – especially compared to last season.
The Bhoys boss himself has admitted the squad is in a weaker position and fans are growing restless that the club simply aren’t capitalising on their strong financial situation.
Dalglish is now adding to the chorus of people who are saying it is time to take action, especially in the wake of the recent defensive injury crisis.
He said in his Sunday Post column [27/08 print edition]: “Celtic find themselves in a position where they have a bit of work to do before the transfer window closes on Friday night. They would much prefer to have everything done and dusted by this stage, but that is not the case.
“Brendan, I’m sure will have his own players in mind and there will be targets identified by the recruitment department. It could well be that they look at a veteran type of player on a short-term deal or a younger player on loan from an EPL club for the season.
“Of course, if they identify the right type and he costs money, then the club is in a healthy financial position to make something happen. So, I would expect Celtic to be prepared able to react to this situation.

“When the window closes on Friday, Brendan will want to feel the squad is stronger from the one he inherited when he took over. He will want to be equipped to handle the next four months when they juggle domestic games and Champions League fixtures. That is not always possible, but everyone at the football club needs to strive and give it their all to make it happen.”
Central defence, left back, left wing, goalkeeper and midfield have all been cited as positions that need strengthening by fans or pundits in recent weeks. The latest reporting indicates Celtic are targeting recruits in at least four of those positions.
But that reporting and all of these discussions need to now result in something tangible from the recruitment team at Celtic. The pressure is on to deliver this week because nobody will leave the club in any doubt about any failings this summer having been in such a position of strength.
It’s all well and good having a lot of money in the bank, but it needs to be used wisely and for the betterment of the team on the park.
