Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish fully expects the team to go on and win a treble of trophies this season after hitting top form again, against Aberdeen on Saturday.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle await in next weekend’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, a club that we’ve had a few unfortunate run-ins with in the past when it comes to knockout competitions.
Nonetheless, Dalglish thinks the Bhoys are set to finish the job on a ‘remarkable’ season and write themselves into the club’s history books.
Speaking to The Sunday Post [28/05 print edition], the icon said: “Most people will take it for granted that Celtic will beat Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday in the Scottish Cup Final. I can understand why and have to say that I expect Ange Postecoglou’s men to emerge victorious. It would give the Parkhead club their fifth treble in seven seasons – quite a remarkable achievement.
“However, there will always be that bit of doubt because Inverness have managed to beat Celtic three times in this Cup in this millennium. It has caused a few shocks, for sure.
“I’m sure Billy Dodds will be telling his squad they can join the list and come away from Hampden with the trophy. He may well be taking heart from the fact that the SPFL champions seem to have been off the boil since they clinched the title a few weeks ago.
“Ange has made a few changes in a number of the games and some might not have reached the required standards. But I expect him to field his strongest available line-up on Saturday. The manager will not take any gambles. He will be absolutely determined to win this trophy and secure a domestic clean sweep.
“He will look to Callum Mcgregor to lead the team and make sure they are 100% ready to complete the job on the field. With other quality players such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota and Reo Hatate playing, it’s hard to see anything other than a convincing win for the Hoops.”
Celtic are red-hot favourites for a reason but we have been given a warning in recent weeks about what can happen when the team don’t turn up with full focus and application. The combative nature of Scottish football can cause our players problems when they’re not on their game.
Thankfully, the signs against Aberdeen on Saturday were far more positive and far more like what we’ve seen consistently from the champions this season. Arrive at Hampden with that attitude and the treble is within our grasp.
