Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish is confident that Ange Postecoglou’s planning for the summer transfer window is well underway and is optimistic about another year of excellent recruitment.
The Celtic season only finished yesterday but everyone knows Postecoglou will be back to work in short order, save for a well-earned break with his family.
Boosted by the security of Champions League qualification without having to go through a qualifying gauntlet, Dalglish feels the Bhoys are in an excellent position.
Celtic transfer window could result in “magnificent” squad
Speaking to The Sunday Post today [15/05 print edition, Post Match supplement page 4], he said: “Postecoglou’s phone will be ringing, and his emails will be pinging. The plotting for next season will have already started. Like his team on the park, it will be relentless off it in the next few weeks.
“Ange will know where he needs to improve, and if his recruitment is as good as it has been in the past 11 months, the squad will be in magnificent shape come August. With guaranteed access to the Champions League, he will know what his budget is, and that’s a great position to be in.
“It’s so much better than waiting until the last few days in the August window to know the kind of player you can pursue. But having significant funds doesn’t mean you will be successful. Nor does it mean that you have to spend every penny.
“However, it should give you a better chance of being successful.”
Dalglish isn’t wrong about the hard work that will be put into Celtic again this summer. Staff, including Postecoglou, will again be going all out to best prepare the Bhoys for the new campaign.
There’s a new urgency at the club that’s been led by the manager. It’s a culture that is so heartening to see.
Postecoglou said this weekend not to expect imminent deals, but it surely won’t be too long before we hear of names arriving in Glasgow.
I’m confident the manager will have a few players in place for the start of pre-season in early July.
