The Celtic first-team squad arrived in Japan on Monday evening.

Led by Brendan Rodgers, the team flew from Scotland to Japan at the start of a week-long tour.

On Tuesday they will train at Yokohama F. Marinos’ Nissan Stadium before facing the reigning J1 League champions 24 hours later.

The team will then travel around 500km west to face Gamba Osaka on Saturday.

Tokyo and Yokohama are only around 40 minutes apart, so it makes sense that the team flew in to the capital’s Narita International Airport.

The players appear to have been given some time to take in their new surroundings too, hours after arriving.

Key first-team members Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt and Sead Haksabanovic all shared aerial posts of Japan on their Instagram stories.

Abada’s post was a video, showing the hustle and bustle of Monday night life in the area.

Getting away to Asia seems like it will be great move for the team. Sure, the emphasis will be placed on pre-season training ahead of the new season.

But the trip will also allow the team to become closer, and get more used to travelling abroad for matches. Not to mention the marketing opportunities on offer for the club.

You’d take it over away trips to Prague and Warsaw like this time last year. No disrespect.

As we covered earlier, this kind of summer trip only comes around as a result of automatic Champions League qualification being assured.

The players may well be sleeping while you’re reading this. When they wake up, the hard work will resume.
