Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston will both be disappointed by the announcement of their referee for Scotland’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Greece.
Tierney and Ralston were among the Celtic stars called up for the October internationals, and face two massive games against Greece and Belarus.
The Tartan Army could secure themselves a play-off spot if results go their way, and move one step closer to booking their place in next year’s tournament.
They’ll need any advantage they can get, which is why the Celtic duo will be so gutted.
Kairat Almaty referee appointed for Scotland vs Greece
Both full-backs are expected to play some part in the World Cup game, but will have bad memories of the man in the middle.
Norwegian official Espen Eskas has been given the job, the same official who oversaw a goalless draw against Kairat Almaty at Parkhead in the Hoops’ Champions League qualifier.

He has also taken charge of another Celtic game, back when Brendan Rodgers’ side were beaten 3-1 by RB Leipzig in 2022.
Steve Clarke’s side are in action against Greece tonight (Thursday 9 October).
Jose Mourinho slammed Scotland vs Greece referee
Eskas hasn’t been given a glowing recommendation in the past, especially from Jose Mourinho.
The former Fenerbahce boss heavily criticised the Norwegian after his side were beaten 3-1 by Rangers in the Champions League, branding him as arrogant.
“The fourth official was a nice guy, he was not arrogant like the referee,” Mourinho exclaimed.
“The ref and the VAR, they decided that we should go to penalties because three penalties within 120 minutes.
