Martin O’Neill has sent Danny Rohl packing.
Even though the Celtic icon may be past the peak of his powers, he still delivered a domestic double last season amidst difficult circumstances and the usual noise from Rangers.
When O’Neill returned for his second spell, Rohl, who lost four post-split fixtures on the bounce, became a bit mouthy and proceeded to question some of the Celtic manager’s on-field calls.
To remind the Celtic Park faithful, Rohl thought it was wise to question O’Neill’s team selection for the Europa League tie at Stuttgart.
Now that the intense pressure of Glasgow has seen Rohl depart Rangers for RB Salzburg, Kris Boyd has called out the German manager for his past actions.
“Remember when he had a go at Martin O’Neill,” Boyd said on the Warm-Up. “Told him how to play his team.
“You are like ‘there is no need to get involved in a war of words with someone who is as experienced as Martin.’ Then something changed inside.”
Should Celtic fans be delighted Rangers are turning to Derek McInnes?
Or are we underestimating him?

Kris Boyd sees the light with Danny Rohl
Celtic fans don’t forget. Remember, there came a point, and Boyd was part of this, when Rohl was seemingly seen as this messiah.
The Ibrox hype train, which had been put into hibernation following Russell Martin’s sacking, had started up again.
You even had a situation where Rangers, who weren’t even sitting top of the table, went into the post-split fixtures as favourites.
The Gers came crashing down in an entertaining fashion, including Daizen Maeda’s stunning overhead kick in the Glasgow derby.
But now that Rohl is out the door, Boyd is now seemingly seeing that Rohl was being hyped up a little too much.
“When you look at Danny Rohl as well,” said Boyd. “There came a stage in the season where you felt as if he was ready to take on the world.
“Although sometimes you were like ‘mate, calm down.’ Remember when he had a go at Martin O’Neill. Told him how to play his team.
“You are like ‘there is no need to get involved in a war of words with someone who is as experienced as Martin.’ Then something changed inside.”
