Celtic hero Chris Sutton blasts Danny Rohl for ‘running away’ as he leaves Rangers for RB Salzburg

Martin O’Neill and Celtic will face off against a new face in the Rangers dugout next season.

That’s because Danny Rohl has departed Glasgow after less than 12 months in the Ibrox dugout.

After watching Celtic lift the domestic double under O’Neill, Rohl has now joined RB Salzburg in Austria, as Chris Sutton has mocked the German for his time in Scotland.

The former Celtic striker has claimed that since O’Neill’s second return, Rohl proved that he didn’t have the ‘stomach’ for the fight, and now he has ‘run away.’

“But with the way things have panned out, it just seems to me that he didn’t have the stomach for it, for whatever reason,” said Sutton.

“He rolled over. Martin O’Neill came in – He ran away.”

Chris Sutton mocks Rangers for ‘rinse and repeat’ as Celtic continue to dominate

Remember, Rangers were favourites heading into the post-split fixtures, yet they ended up third in the Premiership table.

It was Celtic who won all their split matches, including that dramatic last-day title showdown against Hearts.

Don’t also forget that Rangers also spent a lot of money last summer, when Russell Martin was in charge, and a lot of noise was being made by the Teddy Bears supporters.

Yes, as Sutton alluded to on The Warm-Up, it’s ‘rinse and repeat’ in Scotland, as Celtic continue to dominate.

“Just with regards to Danny Rohl,” said Sutton. “I think we both sensed towards the end of the season, maybe you (Kris Boyd) spotted it before me, that he got to a stage, when they went on that run and lost four games or whatever.

“It was like a switch that flicked. He didn’t want to be there anymore. I think it’s fair to say. There is no doubt that he is a talented coach.

“But with the way things have panned out, it just seems to me that he didn’t have the stomach for it, for whatever reason. He rolled over. Martin O’Neill came in. But he did. Rangers are better off without Danny Rohl. I think he wanted a way out. I think he has found a way out.

“In that respect, it is copy and paste. I know Rangers are your (Boyd) club. Rinse and repeat every season. New guy in. The belief is there.

“Will it be different with Derek because of that connection? Because of his knowledge of the Scottish league. That remains to be seen.

“He ran away. I understand what you are saying about the family situation (Rohl’s wife and kids staying in Germany).

“But you do have good schools in Scotland. My three kids went to school in Glasgow, and they are smart. The two youngest ones went to school in England, and they aren’t so smart. What does that tell you? Good education.”

Rohl’s record against Celtic

This man Rohl, was supposed to be Rangers’ messiah. He was winning so many games, all while Celtic were faltering under Wilfried Nancy.

Yet a 74-year-old O’Neill, who is no longer at his peak, over his two spells, not only dominated the domestic scene but slapped Rohl’s Rangers all over the place and sent him packing.
