The Brendan Rodgers era at Celtic ended in a brutal fashion.

In truth, it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the ending of Rodgers’ first spell in charge was equally as bad; the difference is that Celtic fans are on his side this time around, given his beef with the board.

But when Rodgers left Celtic in 2019, John Kennedy stayed on board, and he didn’t follow him to the English Premier League with Leicester City.

The same happened under Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou, but following Rodgers’ abrupt exit on Monday evening, Kennedy also left and ended his 27-year association with Scotland’s most successful club.

Sky Sports were the host broadcaster for Hibernian vs Rangers on Wednesday evening, but given the drama that unfolded at Celtic, they started the show by discussing everything that went off at Parkhead.

Kris Boyd will never be popular with the Celtic supporters, but he came to the aid of Kennedy and spoke out on how he was treated during the period of Rodgers leaving.

Initially, the statement came out about Rodgers’ exit, as well as Martin O’Neill returning, and then Dermot Desmond’s scathing statement.

Boyd stated that he felt ‘sorry’ for Kennedy because, given the service he has provided to Celtic as a player, scout, and coach, he should have been dealt with more respectably.

“The one I do feel sorry for is John Kennedy,” said Boyd. “For the service that John Kennedy and I know Celtic will say, ‘we paid him well.’

“But for 27 years, and 24 trophies, as a coach. More or less to be, what was he, was he even shoved out of the door? When did he find out that he was gone? In the newspapers? Or when the story broke.

“It isn’t good enough. That would be something I would be looking at. That should have been a lot better for the service.

“I know Celtic will say, ‘we looked after John Kennedy after he had a bad injury and that.’ So be that. But, at the same time, for me, John Kennedy should be treated better as well.”
