Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has admitted that he’s looking forward to staying at Parkhead this season amid interest from AC Milan.
Milan were linked consistently throughout the summer with a move for the Norwegian international. However, in the end, they failed to bring another centre-back in despite it being one of their priorities (Sky Sport).
Given the fact they failed to sign an additional centre-back, that’s let to fears that Ajer could be the subject of heavy interest from the Serie A giants yet again in January.

However, speaking today ahead of Norway’s game against Northern Ireland tomorrow, Ajer hinted that he’ll be here for Celtic’s pursuit of the 10.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Ajer said: “There has been a lot of interest, but I am very happy to be at Celtic. They have given me over 150 games and backed me.
“It is a club that means a lot to a lot of people, and I am happy to be there.
“My contract lasts another year and a half, and I look forward to playing there this season.”
If Milan come back, Celtic must be even more resistant
There was a solid lock on the Parkhead exit door this summer. Neil Lennon consistently came out and stated that there was absolutely no way they were selling their top stars before the summer window slammed shut (The Times).
Ajer fell into that category, and it’ll be even more important that he isn’t sold in just under three months’ time when the winter window opens.
The Celtic board simply can’t be seen to be cashing in on their top assets and putting 10-in-a-row at risk. Even bringing in a replacement for Ajer for the final six months of the season wouldn’t save them either given the bedding in period that would likely be necessary.

So it’s promising for us as supporters to see that Ajer is just as committed to seeing the season through. His comments here come from a player who appears to know what’s at stake this season, and is keen to pay us back with performances.
Remember how emotional Ajer gets too. If he gets invested in a title fight this season, he’ll almost certainly want to finish it and secure the 10. What a way to end his Celtic career that would be.
But it looks like we can brace ourselves for another January of speculation. Hopefully, come the end of it, Ajer is still wearing the green-and-white of Celtic.
In other news, a controversial pundit has made a laughable claim regarding his opinions on Arsenal and Celtic.
