Celtic pair Kristoffer Ajer and Nir Bitton showed their class last night, as they had positive things to say following Scotland’s Euro 2020 qualifying triumph.
The duo may both have suffered qualification heartache last month for Norway and Israel respectively – but they were still seemingly pleased to see Scotland’s success.
Hoops defender Bitton took to Instagram to post a story, quoting the official Scotland account and saying: ‘Congrats boys, well deserved.”
It was a nice act from a guy who is probably still hurting a fair bit from the manner of the Scots’ win over his side last month.
Or perhaps Bitton was just softening us up before our trip to Netanya on Wednesday night.
Ajer also gets involved
His defensive partner Ajer also commented on the Scotland triumph, but chose instead to focus in on his Celtic team-mate Ryan Christie.
Following the attackers tearful post-match interview that had us all going, Ajer simply said: “Hero”.
It showed both players in a really good light.
You can’t underestimate how gutted both Ajer and Bitton would have been not to make it to next year’s finals tournament.
Israel haven’t qualified for either the World Cup or the Euros since 1970, while Norway’s wait has been since Euro 2000.
They showed their class towards their Celtic team-mates. And for that I say fair play.
Now let’s achieve some success together.
