Kyogo Furuhashi, David Turnbull and Celtic leave Charlie Adam in awe

Former Liverpool, Blackpool and current Dundee midfielder Charlie Adam admits Celtic have the tools to compete for the title this season.

After Rangers lost two consecutive games, one in the league, the Bhoys’ buoyant crowd on Sunday were treated to a fantastic afternoon of entertainment. Kyogo Furuhashi scored a hat-trick, while Ryan Christie and Liel Abada had star turns against the Taysiders.

As a member of Sunday’s vanquished opposition, it was a little strange to hear Charlie Adam as part of the BBC’s coverage of Rangers v Malmö. However, Adam was there, and was asked what he thought of Celtic, and their ability to take advantage of any further slip-ups.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Adam said [BBC Radio Scotland, 10/8, 19.26]:

“Celtic will have sniffed a bit of… on Sunday, you could feel it in the crowd. 25,000 there, you cold feel it once they got the first goal, they lifted up, and they had free-flowing [football].

“Furuhashi was instrumental in everything they done. [It was the] first time I properly seen Turnbull close up as well. He’d shown glimpses.

“Do they still need players? Yes. They’ve said that they need players. But going forward, middle to front, they’re going to cause problems.

“Celtic and Rangers can score 5 or 6 against anybody in the league, and that’ll happen in the season.”

Charlie Adam saw first-hand how dangerous new-look Celtic can be

In fairness, I don’t even think we expected such total domination against Dundee. They clawed their way to a respectable 2-2 draw last weekend.

With a lot of experience in their squad, Adam included, the prevailing logic would surely dictate they wouldn’t have gone down so meekly.

Alas, for Dundee, they did. But in fairness, it was an irresistible display from Celtic. Ange-ball looks to be coming to fruition, and it’s a warning for the rest of league if that is indeed the case.

Adam won’t have enjoyed it much, but fair play to him for giving credit where it’s due. Talking from experience, praising your rivals in a public forum is one of the least fun things you can do, in terms of football media.

Next up for Celtic, it’s FK Jablonec, before Hearts arrive on Sunday.
