Kyogo Furuhashi has endured a torrid time since leaving Celtic.

Kyogo was an icon at Celtic, scoring 85 times in 165 games but left the club to join Rennes in January.

Since then, the Japan international has been left out in the cold and Kyogo was recently left out of the match day squad entirely.

Now, it’s almost certain that the former Celtic forward will leave in the summer and a move away may have accelerated even further after Rennes confirmed that the man who played a key role in bringing him to France has left the club.

Rennes director of football leaves French side after Kyogo transfer

In a statement on their official website, Rennes confirmed that director of football Frederic Massara has left the club by mutual consent.

It read: “By mutual agreement, SRFC and Frederic Massara have decided to end their collaboration at the end of the season.

“The SRFC would like to thank him and wish him the best for the future.”

Massara played a huge role in signing Kyogo from Celtic, despite manager at the time Jorge Sampaoli claiming he had no role in facilitating the transfer.

Since Habib Beye replaced Sampaoli, the 30-year-old’s game time has drastically reduced and now the director of football has left, Kyogo looks set to follow through the exit door.

How Kyogo compares to Adam Idah since leaving in January

After departing Glasgow, Kyogo’s spot in the team was taken by Adam Idah.

Idah netted his 20th goal of the season against Aberdeen and has been on a good run of form since the turn of the year.

Whether that’s because he is now the main man in the side is another thing, but it’s clear who has been more successful, with the number of assists being the only thing that they can say they’re equals on.
