Neil Lennon has provided Celtic fans with a frustrating update regarding potential new signings.
The Celtic boss may be under the cosh, but it doesn’t look like it’s stopping him from being given the go-ahead to bring in new players. That’s despite the fact Celtic are close to announcing the outcome of their January review on the manager.
Even so, Lennon has called for the arrival of a new centre-back to the club before the window closes [Scottish Sun]. An injury to Christopher Jullien has left Celtic struggling for cover.
And today, the Celtic boss provided a timeline on when he expects some players to arrive at Parkhead as well as what kind of deals they could come to Parkhead on.
As quoted by BT Sport, Lennon said: “We are looking to bring players in.
“We are looking at a number of positions, a number of options and we think we are a bit of the way down the line with one or two deals so hopefully we will have something for you in the next few days.
“I don’t know if we will be spending money, we just maybe looking into one or two players on loan until the end of the season, bargains that we feel could be value for money and could make us better.”
Lennon still being given the go-ahead to make signings; Celtic fans will be mixed
It’s clear the club needs a bit of bolstering in certain positions. In that regard, some may feel it’s promising to hear the manager discuss potential arrivals. Especially given we’ve been offered absolutely nothing by this board all January.
However, for many, it may also be a slap in the face. A sign that Lennon is still being given the opportunity to press ahead as manager. A sign that he’s still going to be here for the foreseeable future.
The prospect of yet more loan deals also does little to excite. The club continues to spend no money but will instead bring in a couple of loan deals? It’s either a case of you’re sticking by your manager or you aren’t. If you aren’t, then get him out the door. Don’t insult us or try to appease us by bringing in loan signings.
If Celtic bring in two temporary players, we’ll have a ridiculous five loan players at the club. That’s unacceptable for the 10-in-a-row campaign. It shows what we’ve resorted to as a football club.
Meanwhile, Lennon continues to act as if everything’s okay. As if our January work has been careful and is going to lead to some promising results in the next week. All the while refusing to actually spend any money on decent footballers.
An update telling us we were bringing nobody in would’ve been more promising. Another couple of loan signings? Don’t act as though we should be excited.
