Lennon worryingly discusses summer Celtic rebuild

Neil Lennon has worryingly talked up the Celtic summer rebuild that lies ahead of us, and again showed no intention of quitting before then.

The Hoops supporters have been calling for the manager to for what’s now the best part of over three months. Yet despite humiliation after humiliation, Lennon still hasn’t packed his bags and done the honourable thing.

For many, it’s what’s effectively cost us the 10. The manager refused to admit he was the man for the job back when the 10 was still retrievable. Now? We sit an absolutely disgraceful 23 points behind Rangers with only two games in-hand. Yesterday’s 2-1 home loss to St Mirren was potentially sackable in its own right.

However, despite the latest embarrassment he’s inflicted on the club, he still managed to talk up the prospect of rebuilding the squad in January. Incredibly, Lennon looks set to ignore the Celtic supporters’ calls for him to walk once again.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the manager said: “The only thing that concerns me is how the market is in the summer.

“January has been very quiet and you’re worried it might be the same because we don’t know how financially strong clubs are going to be – or even how our own position is going to look then.

“In terms of rebuilding the squad, that’s always an exciting project for me, to bring in new blood and give the squad that extra impetus and freshness which is always good for everyone.”

Celtic rebuild starts in the dugout Neil; why can’t you see that?

There comes a point where the manager simply needs to be put out of his misery. That came back in October when we refused to act. Everything that’s burning around us is simply a by-product of keeping the man in his job. Out of Europe with a whimper, out of the Betfred Cup, out of the title-race. None of this reads well.

We have young players outlining their intentions to depart the club and moving on in January. The Jeremie Frimpong deal is a damning indictment of how the season has gone so far. It also doesn’t reflect well the mood amongst the camp at the minute.

To talk up a potential summer rebuild is like slapping the fans in the face. It’s a total ignorance of the current situation and a continuation of the manager’s own delusion that he believes he even deserves that opportunity.

You’re now left questioning, after yesterday’s 2-1 loss to St Mirren, just how much it’s going to take. At what point does Lennon actually look at the situation and say ‘enough’s enough, I’m driving this club into the ground’. The board, for whatever reason, have shown a complete tidal wave of blind faith in this manager. Look where it’s gotten us to.

Lennon appears happy enough to allow this season to turn into a bigger calamity than the Tony Mowbray season. Even Mogga was sacked when we were 10 points behind Rangers [albeit having played two more games]. Where is the line for Lennon?

To be discussing the excitement of the summer is a no-go. He simply cannot be in charge by that state, but knowing Dermot Desmond’s relationship with him, nothing would surprise you anymore.
