Liam Scales was self-admittedly left in awe of Celtic teammate Reo Hatate on Saturday after his blinding bit of skill that resulted in the Bhoys’ first goal against Kilmarnock.
Hatate flicked the ball through David Watson’s legs before surging towards the edge of the box and finishing coolly into the corner of the Killie goal. It was one of the finest goals Celtic have scored all season.
Scales, who has been an impressive performer for the Bhoys himself late, described the Japanese star’s all-round display as ‘unbelievable’ in post-match interviews.
The Irish defender said [Sunday Post, 08/10 print edition]: “When Reo is firing he’s unbelievable. His goal came from a scary piece of skill – my jaw dropped out on the pitch seeing it happen. I’ll have to watch it back again, it was that good.
“He just brings something different to the team as we don’t really have anyone else who is like him. When he’s firing he’s unbelievable.”
Scales is now looking forward to heading off on international duty with the Republic of Ireland. They have games against Greece and Gibraltar this month. He will be relishing another opportunity to impress.
His club form has certainly taken many by surprise, but if he can keep this up Brendan Rodgers won’t be dropping him anytime soon.

The same could be said for Hatate. He was undoubtedly the team’s man of the match on Saturday.
Everyone is hoping it’s the start of his own sustained run of form. His bursts of skill can be breathtaking, but we all want to see him do it regularly now.
