Liam Scales has offered a refreshing take on his uncertain future at Celtic.

The defender was back in his homeland on Saturday as the Hoops played out a 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Scales played the entire match, after also appearing in both Japan clashes, and coped pretty well against some talented Premier League firepower.

After the game he spoke to Celtic TV and was asked about his hopes for the season.

The in-house question wouldn’t have been asked with the intention of finding out if a transfer was imminent, but Scales addressed the issue.

“Look, I don’t know what’s ahead of me,” he said.

“I just want to do as well as I can and make as good an impression as I can on the people here, and do my best.

“That’s as much as I can do.”

Scales has made a pretty good impression on most at the club since he joined from Shamrock Rovers in 2021.

He has had to settle for a bit part at Celtic but did have some success in the second-half of last season at Aberdeen.

There have been various reports over the summer suggesting that the Pittodrie side are keen on signing him again, but nothing has materialised yet. It’s fair to suggest that his future is uncertain.

The likelihood is that Scales doesn’t know exactly where he stands in Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

He just wants to give his all while playing for the club, and what will be will be. That’s a refreshing way to approach the issue.

The imminent returns of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, as well as the arrival of Maik Nawrocki suggest that Scales will be fourth choice at best.

We’ll have to wait and see if that’s good enough for him.
