Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw is closing in on a move to Wigan Athletic, according to a report.
Wigan Today say that the Englishman is set to become the Latics’ seventh signing of the transfer window.
Shaw was on loan at Morecambe last season and is said to have caught the eye of Wigan manager Shaun Maloney — a very familiar name to Celtic supporters.
Maloney was a key player for the club in two spells at the start of the century. Now at League One Wigan, it seems like his eyes are still very much on what’s happening at Celtic Park.
Young former Hoops centre-back Liam Morrison joined Wigan on loan from Bayern Munich a matter of weeks ago, and now Shaw looks set to join up too.
It’s not totally clear what Shaw’s situation has been at Celtic this summer. He doesn’t appear to have been involved in training at Lennoxtown, Portugal or certainly Japan.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man signed a four-year deal when he joined the club in 2021 (Celtic) so he should still have a couple of years left to run.
But he clearly doesn’t have a future at the club so it stands to reason that we would try to move him on and free up some wages.

Shaw only featured in three competitive matches for Celtic, most notably starting in a Europa League dead-rubber against Real Betis.
He acquitted himself well in that frantic encounter, but was never able to find a regular spot in the Hoops first-team.
Some things just aren’t meant to be. We wish him all of the best for the future.
