Liel Abada delivers honest account of time at Celtic as he looks to the future

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has moved several players on since returning to the helm at Parkhead last summer.

Nevertheless, one man we probably didn’t expect to leave the club this time last year was Liel Abada, who signed a new four-year contract last September following significant interest in his services from elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers wasn’t able to get the best out of the 22-year-old in the end, with off-field issues earlier this year leading to the Israel international being dropped for our 2-0 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup due to not being in the ‘right frame of mind’ to take part.

Eventually, he was sold to Major League Soccer outfit Charlotte FC for a fee in the region of £10 million, bringing the curtain down on a productive spell at Parkhead.

Overall, Abada scored 29 goals and laid on 22 assists in 112 appearances for Celtic, claiming five trophies along the way [Transfermarkt].

Fortunately, Rodgers’ men look to have successfully replaced his influence on the right flank with Germany, who has entered a rich vein of form despite enduring a tricky early period in Glasgow.

Hyunjun Yang has shown an elevated level of consistency; meanwhile, veteran James Forrest has excelled in his role as a substitute, and the three provide more than enough cover on the right flank.

Liel Abada on his time at Celtic

There was a lot of noise over Abada’s Celtic departure, though he did send a lengthy goodbye message thanking the supporters, coaching staff and his former teammates for everything during his time in Glasgow.

Now, it appears that the Petak Tikva-born man is looking to the future; however, he did give an honest account of his Parkhead spell in a live TV interview with Sport 1 before flying out to the United States.

He stated: “The feelings are very good. I’m waiting to get there and meet everyone (at Charlotte FC) and start my journey.”

Abada then added on his time at Celtic: “It was really not easy being far away, but I had time with my family and friends now to see everyone. I had an amazing time at Celtic, and now my head is on a new journey.

“I hope I can represent the country with respect. I had some time now with family and friends and now I’m embarking on a new journey.”

Undoubtedly, Abada still seems to hold Celtic in high esteem despite some suggestions to the contrary; regardless, it doesn’t really matter too much, as he is no longer on the books.

Hopefully, he can go on to achieve success in his career, which his stay in Glasgow would’ve prepared him for amid his trophy haul over the last couple of years.
