The next chapter of former Celtic hero, Jota’s career has now been mapped after he ended his Saudi nightmare with a move to Stade Rennes.

Jota made a summer switch from Celtic to Al Ittihad last summer for a £25m fee after the Portuguese winger had two successful seasons in Scotland.

Winning a double during his initial loan spell, Jota made the permanent switch to Celtic from Benfica in 2022 and quickly reached hero status in the eyes of the majority of Hoops supporters as he terrorised Scottish football with his trickery and magic on the wing.

And now, as he ends his time in Saudi Arabia, Jota has signed for Stade Rennes and his new club and Ligue 1 celebrated the capture by adopting a familiar Celtic fan anthem.

Jota on the Wing adopted by Rennes and Ligue 1

Rennes are looking to improve their fortunes in Ligue 1 and to do that they clearly see Jota as the man who can fire them up the league and back into contention for European places.

And as they celebrated the signing, the announcement made on social media has a tune that will be familiar to the Celtic supporters:

And, in what seems like an unusual step, Ligue 1 followed suit as the French football authority used the original Ellie Dixon soundtrack to welcome their new Portuguese addition:

Jota’s next chapter

There is no doubt many Celtic fans would have loved to have seen Jota back in the green and white Hoops and at the price Rennes managed to land him for, there will be some who thought the Parkhead club could have made that deal happen.

However, it wasn’t meant to be and Jota now starts the next chapter of his career in the French top flight.

As just 25, the Portuguese still has plenty of time to resurrect his career as he clearly is a talented footballer.

Will Celtic fans ever see Jota grace Paradise again? I’m sure many hope they will but for now, 67 Hail Hail wishes him all the best and, hopefully, Jota on the Wing will be sung more often and loudly from the Roazhon Park stands.
