Celtic may not be too happy with the recent comments made by Lille boss Christophe Galtier on Jozo Simunovic.

The Croatian was recently linked with a £5million move to the Ligue 1 outfit and Galtier’s comments aren’t likely to cool down speculation.

The Frenchman has spoken positively about Simunovic with the Daily Record reporting his short comment.

Galtier said: “Jozo Simunovic is a very good player with a good knowledge of European football.”

While the Lille boss’ comments weren’t exactly in depth, it does seem peculiar that he would choose to speak about the Celtic defender.

There’s an unwritten rule between top-level clubs that you don’t comment on individuals who are plying their trade elsewhere. You often hear managers refusing to talk about transfer targets until they have been signed and perhaps Galtier should have done the same.

Of course, his full quotes may not have been reported by the press as they don’t make for the same juicy headline.

Are Lille serious about Simunovic?

It will be interesting to see if Lille’s apparent interest does result in them making a formal offer. For all of the chatter about several of our most prized assets leaving this summer, there has only been one player actually subject to a bid.

Other than Arsenal’s two failed attempts to agree a fee for Kieran Tierney, every other rumour has been just that – a rumour. You would expect that to change in the coming weeks though and Simunovic is likely to be one of those coming under threat.

The big central-defender has become an important player under Neil Lennon but the temptation of £5million may be too much for the club to turn down.

If he does leave, we’ll need to bring in a new player to fill his position.
