Celtic have always proven that they have a great eye for talent.
Time and time again, several players, with little noise around them, or in their teenage years, are signed and then transformed into top, top stars.
One of them includes Celtic hero Jeremie Frimpong, who joined the Hoops in 2019 as a fresh-faced teenager from Manchester City.
Since then, Frimpong has gone on to become one of the best right-backs in Europe, including signing for Liverpool this summer, and there is one thing he has kept with him since his Celtic days.

Jeremie Frimpong continues Celtic trend after signing for Liverpool
It’s traditional for the right-back in football to don the number 2 shirt, or a low number of any kind, especially if you are a regular starter.
But at Celtic, Frimpong wore the number 30 shirt, and it’s something he has kept with him throughout his career.
Frimpong wore the same number at Bayer Leverkusen, including helping them win their first-ever German title under Xabi Alonso two seasons ago, and he told a Liverpool podcast about that number 30.
Interviewer: ‘Jeremie, talk to me about your squad number? 30?’
Frimpong: ’30! Obviously, my first professional football number was 30 at Celtic, so I just kept it.
‘At Leverkusen I was 30, and obviously coming to Liverpool, I’m known as 30 and it was free, so I was like…’
Interviewer: ‘It’s got more meaning because you’ve stuck with it.’
Frimpong: ‘Yeah.’
Celtic players who have worn the number 30
As of this moment, nobody at Celtic is wearing the number 30 shirt, and it has been a few years since somebody took that number.
The last man to do so was a player who flopped in the green and white colours – and that’s Yosuke Ideguchi.
Here is a list of players in the history of Celtic who have worn the number 30 shirt:
- Yosuke Ideguchi
- Liam Shaw
- Jeremie Frimpong
- Timothy Weah
- Paul Slane
- Dominic Cervi
- Steve Guppy
- Vidar Riseth
