Wilfried Nancy has been sacked as Celtic manager.

Celtic’s 3-1 defeat to Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday turned out to be his last, as he was relieved of his duties on Monday afternoon.

Nancy left the club after just 33 days, losing six of his eight games in charge in a start unprecedented in the Hoops’ history.

Nancy’s biggest ally, Paul Tisdale, was also relieved of his duties, after giving him his full endorsement to come in and replace Martin O’Neill.

Now, O’Neill is back for yet another interim spell – and picking the team up after Nancy’s tenure will be immensely challenging.

What do you think is the main reason Wilfried Nancy couldn’t buy a win as Celtic manager? 🤔

Peter Grant on Wilfried Nancy at Celtic

Nancy’s issues at Celtic went beyond just his lack of wins – he failed to convince many with his ideas.

Both in the media and in the dugout, Nancy was ridiculed by fans of Celtic and other clubs.

And Peter Grant was livid at one of his last acts at Celtic boss, at Saturday’s Glasgow Derby showdown.

On the Go Radio Football Show, he expressed his disgust at the last-minute substitutions which saw James Forrest and Liam Scales enter the pitch.

He said: “My biggest thing that annoyed me a little bit was putting Scales and Forrest on with two minutes to go.

“I thought it was really poor – especially with somebody like James Forrest, who’s played so many games.

“It’s different if you’re putting on Scales to save you… I don’t know [what he’s saying to them]. I just don’t know.

“I just thought it was disrespectful in that respect. That’s when I thought: ‘The manager’s not thinking clearly now.'”

They replaced Anthony Ralston and Kieran Tierney in what seemed like quite a pointless switch.

Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic spell

Nancy couldn’t have possibly been handed a more daunting start – but at the same time, it couldn’t have gone much worse.

After O’Neill’s run of wins in his interim spell, Nancy lost 2-1 to Hearts, 3-0 to Roma and 3-1 to St Mirren in his first week.

This was bruising enough, and after a 1-0 defeat to Dundee United, fans were already calling for him to be sacked.

Wins over Aberdeen and Livingston weathered the storm and showed better signs on the pitch – but in a crucial week of games against Motherwell and Rangers, two more defeats sealed Nancy’s fate.
