Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic nightmare is over.
His departure was confirmed, along with that of his biggest ally Paul Tisdale, on Monday afternoon – just 33 days after his appointment.
He had lost six of his eight games in a disastrous opening run as Celtic manager. His abrupt change of playing style after Martin O’Neill’s interim spell backfired royally.
As a result of Nancy’s departure, O’Neill has now been named interim manager for the second time already in a truly absurd season.
Peter Martin reported that Nancy’s departure could’ve come earlier – he has maintained this claim.
What message would you send Wilfried Nancy as Celtic sack the manager?
Peter Martin on Wilfried Nancy at Celtic
In a start unprecedented in Celtic’s history, Nancy lost all of his first four matches in charge of the Hoops.
This included a top-of-the-table clash with Hearts and a Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren. It was bruising stuff.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s Football Show, Martin stood by his reporting from after the Dundee United clash, also saying that we could see more exits from the Celtic board.
He said: “We’ve been talking about it ad nauseam.
“Of course, I mentioned after the first four defeats that the Celtic board were considering sacking him. He was given a stay of execution – I stand by the fact that they discussed his position.
“This time around, they’ve all got around there and said, ‘We’ve made a mistake.’
“There were some stories out this morning that there was a split in the board, and maybe Dermot Desmond was digging his heels in.
“But quite simply: he’s been sacked, Paul Tisdale’s been sacked… I mentioned at the weekend as well, that because of the calamitous nature of this appointment, some of the board are still in the firing line as well.”
The Hoops are currently on the hunt for a new chairman too, following the departure of Peter Lawwell at the turn of the year.
What do you think is the main reason Wilfried Nancy couldn’t buy a win as Celtic manager? 🤔
The stats are damning…
The day Wilfried Nancy left Celtic
After Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Rangers at Celtic Park, many felt that the writing was on the wall for Nancy.
After radio silence on Sunday, Monday began without an announcement, until a press release appeared in the late afternoon.
This confirmed Nancy’s departure alongside assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier.
O’Neill’s return was then confirmed in the evening, with the familiar coaching team of Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus.
