Luis Palma breaks silence as he reveals what ‘motivated’ his Celtic exit to Olympiacos

Luis Palma left Celtic for Olympiacos on loan until the end of the season.

The Honduran winger has seen his Hoops career nosedive after Palma struggled to get regular game time under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Palma was linked to Real Vallecano earlier in the transfer window but no move materialised for the Celtic star as he remained behind Daizen Maeda, James Forrest and even Hyunjun Tang in the pecking order in the Bhoys’ first-team squad.

Now at Olympiacos, Palma has explained why he decided to take the jump and leave Celtic and give Jota the famous number seven jersey until the end of the season.

Luis Palma shares what ‘inspired’ him to leave Celtic for Olympiacos

Palma told Olympiacos FC on social media, “I am very happy and pleased to be in this great team. What motivated me to come? Its greatness, knowing that it is a winning team, a club that always fights for trophies, inspired me to be here.

“What I will always try to do is score goals and assist, and more than any sacrifice for the team, I will do my bit.

Palma already saw his new teammates play in last Thursday’s Europa League victory against Qarabag.

“I saw the last match,” Palma continued, “I had seen other matches in the Greek League, I was travelling when I saw it. They are a great team, I hope to give my all for them.”

Olympiacos finished third in the title race last season but are looking to go two steps further and win the Greek Super League this year.

Sitting in first place just one point ahead of Panithinakos, Palma will be hoping to fire his new teammates to their 48th title win in their history.

The Celtic winger could make his debut today in the 2:30pm kick-off as the title contenders take on relegation battlers Levadiakos.

Palma could also make his home debut next Sunday as Olympiacos takes on Asteras Tripoli at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium on the 9th of February.

However, Palma will not get to face his old side, Aris, as the current league leaders have already faced them twice this season winning 2-1 earlier in January but also losing 2-1 away.
