Celtic have a large core of young players who are out on loan in alternative environments to build up their first-team experience.

Making the grade at Parkhead is never easy, and it sometimes takes exceptional talent to break through the youth ranks to mix it with senior professionals.

Even the likes of club captain Callum McGregor had to depart the club in his early career to learn the ropes at Notts County.

Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and Mikey Johnston have also embarked on spells elsewhere before coming back to Celtic to inherit a role in the Scottish Premiership holders’ squad.

Brendan Rodgers has indicated recently that he is keen to ensure a pathway for youth players is present at the club.

He stated before his side’s 1-0 victory over Ross County: “Everyone talks about signings and bringing people in, and I always say that you might have someone within your academy, but you need to have the space for those players to flourish and develop.”

Despite the encouraging sentiment from the manager, it doesn’t make it easier for prodigious youngsters to filter their way through to regular involvement with the first string, homegrown or otherwise.

Celtic prospect Bosun Lawal is impressing at Fleetwood Town

Charlie Adam is no stranger to Celtic supporters and probably isn’t someone famed at Parkhead due to his connection with the Hoops’ Glasgow rivals.

However, he is actually loanee Bosun Lawal’s manager at Fleetwood Town, where the latter has spent the entire campaign after being farmed out at the start of 2023/34.

Being utilised in various positions, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has made 30 appearances this term, registering a solitary goal [Transfermarkt].

Adam has recently spoken about Lawal’s level of talent and has predicted that he will have a ‘bright future’ in the game, stating [Daily Record]: “Unfortunately, Bosun is not our player, but while he is here, he is our player and what he has done since he has been here is give us a good base in terms of his size and physicality.

“How he dribbles with the ball, his touches and passes. There are not many midfielders like that in the Championship in England, let alone League One. So he has got a bright future. He is at a big football club in Celtic.”

“We are lucky to have him here at Fleetwood, and in the coming months to the end of the season, we will send a better player back than when he came in here.”

Celtic youngster Bosun Lawal could have a future at Parkhead

Now 20 years old, it feels like an age since Lawal joined the club from Watford for around £150,000 back in 2021.

Establishing himself south of the border, it is fair to say that the Irishman has got stuck in this campaign, recording 1.8 tackles, 3.8 clearances and five ball recoveries per fixture in League One [Sofascore].

Last year, he made his only senior appearance for Celtic off the bench in a 5-0 victory over Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup at Parkhead [BBC Sport].

Should he continue to progress, Lawal could have every chance of adding to his sole outing in the green and white come next season.
