New Celtic signing Marco Tilio says he had discussions with Aaron Mooy prior to making the move to Glasgow.
Mooy departed Celtic a week ago after announcing his retirement from club and international football.
Compatriot Tilio hadn’t officially been confirmed as a Hoops player at that stage, although he was announced several hours later.
Now in Glasgow, the former Melbourne City man has been chatting to the Scottish media for the first time.
“I spoke to Aaron Mooy before making my decision,” Tilio said. (Celtic YouTube)
“I’ve been involved in the national team with him a few times. He couldn’t speak highly enough of the club and the people at the club.
“He really brought my attention that I really wanted to do this and join this pretty great club.”
Mooy wasn’t the only Australian that Tilio was asked about in his first media outing.
Strangely enough, the Ange Postecoglou angle was brought up with a Sky Sports question pondering whether the now-Spurs boss had played a role in the deal.
“I never spoke to Ange,” replied Tilio. “But I know the club have had a plan for me for a number of years now.”
Tilio was keen to talk about Brendan Rodgers and the “great” chat the pair had shared prior to the deal being concluded.
Celtic have had a terrific Australian influence over the years. From Mark Viduka and Scott McDonald to Tom Rogic, Postecoglou and Mooy.
If Tilio can have anywhere near the same impact as the majority of the above then we’ll be on to a winner.
