Celtic could be about to face Wolves in Dublin later this month, according to a report.

The Irish Mirror say that the two sides are “understood to be eyeing up a friendly match” at the Aviva Stadium.

They say that talks are ongoing about the match which would take place on Saturday 29 July.

The Hoops were meant to face the Premier League side in South Korea on July 26, but both sides have since pulled out of that match with Celtic unhappy with the tour promoters.

We will face Yokohama F. Marinos (July 19) and Gamba Osaka (July 22) in Japan and also have Athletic Club visiting Glasgow for James Forrest’s testimonial (August 1).

But the ten day gap between the latter two looks likely to be filled as the first-team make their long-awaited return to Dublin.

It seems like an official update is not far away. Celtic SLO John Paul Taylor offered some insight on the issue, when replying to a fan on Twitter on Friday.

Taylor tweeted: “Think the loss of the game in South Korea has opened up that weekend now so hopefully be an update very soon.”

2018 was the last time we visited the city. Managed by Brendan Rodgers, we beat Shamrock Rovers 7-0 in Tallaght.

A year earlier, we beat the south Dublin side 9-0 in their own ground.

Our last visit to the Aviva Stadium came in 2016 when we went down 3-1 to Barcelona as part of the International Champions Cup.

We have also faced the likes of Liverpool and Inter Milan in the stadium.
