Celtic’s transfer business has been the subject of plenty of headlines this week as Brendan Rodgers looks to add and keep his best players at the club.

Matt O’Riley has been the talk of the town after the Brighton CEO went public about his club’s position on signing the Celtic midfielder.

Southampton appear to be out of the race to sing O’Riley after the £30m transfer fee seems to have scared the Russell Martin away.

So whilst Brendan Rodgers hopes that O’Riley will still be part of his Celtic squad before the transfer window closes, Mark Guidi has said that there are three players the Hoops boss is looking to sell before deadline day.

Celtic want Maik Nawrocki and two others ‘out the door’

The central defensive position at Celtic has been an issue for the club since last summer. The injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers last season proved that Rodgers is lacking quality in depth in that area of the pitch.

Maik Nawrocki was brought in as Celtic’s most expensive transfer last summer but has made just 13 appearances for the club and it seems that he and two others are players Celtic want to let go before the end of the summer window.

Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “So what you’ve got to remember about Anthony Ralston is, he’s, I’m not saying he’s happy, but he knows his role at the club. He’s a standby to Alistair Johnson.

“You’ve got to remember as well, he’s also Scottish, he’s homegrown, so he ticks the boxes for your European squad. So you’ve got to take that into account. He’s a good pro, he doesn’t cause any trouble.

“So, therefore, right back’s not in any shape or form a priority. The other side of the pitch is, a left back and a left center half’s required. But what Celtic are also trying to do is get three centre-halves out of the door.

Kobayashi, Lagerbielke and probably Nawrocki. So it’s difficult, they need to get bodies out too and then wait and see what happens in the other positions.”

Gustaf Lagerbielke already seems to heading out the door on loan after the Celtic defender held talks about making a temporary move to Heerenveen this summer.

With four years left on their current deals, it seems that moves for Kobayashi and Nawrocki are quite a bit away as there has been no interest shown in either player for some time now.

Whether Celtic can get all three off the books remains to be seen but one thing is for sure, if they do, Rodgers is going to need reinforcements in there as they will be short for backup cover.
