Mark Guidi shares a strange position Celtic are ‘certainly in the market’ to go and strengthen

Celtic’s transfer need, as almost every fan knows, is the requirement for a new striker.

Ever since the collapse of the deal to bring Kyogo back to Celtic, the Parkhead club now have just over two weeks to find that all-important striker.

Right now, Celtic are relying on Johnny Kenny to spearhead a title defence and it’s simply not working. That’s nothing against the player, he is simply not ready to be the club’s main striker.

Kenny has failed to score since Martin O’Neill left Celtic in his first interim spell which is why the club are in dire need of a striker.

But it seems that the recall of Stephen Welsh has made Mark Guidi reveal that Celtic are ‘in the market’ for another position, despite the dire need to strengthen the forward line.

Stephen Welsh’s Celtic return sparks Mark Guidi’s transfer update

Speaking about Welsh coming back to Celtic, Guidi said that the Parkhead club are strangely still searching for another centre-back.

Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “Yeah, that will be a blow for Motherwell.

“Stephen Welsh has been an integral part of everything that’s been good this season. And you just wonder if Celtic sign a central defender, I know they’re certainly in the market to go and try and do that before the end of the window.

“So if that would allow Stephen Welsh to maybe, if Motherwell want to make it permanent or Stephen Welsh wants to go somewhere else. But it’s a blow for Motherwell.

“But right now, it’s the right decision for Celtic.”

Celtic’s current centre-backs make transfer search strange

Celtic have plenty of centre-backs at the club now that Stephen Welsh has returned to the club.

As it stands right now, here is the full list of central defenders in the Celtic first-team squad:

Quite why the club is searching for a defender especially when there is sufficient cover right now and the need for a striker is great, is just bizarre.
