Celtic hero Kristoffer Ajer was rumoured to be on his way out of Brentford this month as the January transfer rumours heat up.

Ajer left Celtic in 2021 for a deal said to be worth around £17.5m including add-ons as he made his way to the Premier League.

The iconic defender was crucial to Celtic’s Quadruple Treble and nine-in-a-row era as the Norwegian won three league titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups during his time at the club.

Struggling at Brentford this season, Ajer is yet to make a single first-team appearance as the former Celtic man struggles to break into the starting XI.

And as rumours suggested the Norwegian is set to leave the club, Sky Sports have set the record straight as they reveal the Bees’ intentions towards the Celtic icon.

Celtic icon Kristoffer Ajer will stay at Brentford

Ajer has made just 112 appearances for Brentford since his Celtic exit five years ago.

With three years left on his current contract, with a year option, the Norwegian defender could still fetch a hefty price.

However, it appears he is going nowhere as Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas said on X, “Brentford have no plans to sell Kristoffer Ajer this month.

“Wolfsburg are among the clubs interested and have made initial contact but Bees still consider Ajer an important part of the first-team and intend for him to stay.”

The sell-on clause Celtic have for Kristoffer Ajer

For all the criticism Celtic get for their transfer dealings, one thing the club is particularly great at is securing a future fee by inserting a sell-on clause.

Jeremie Frimpong was a great example of that after Celtic received around £6m for the now Liverpool defender.

With Ajer though, the sell-on clause is suggested to be around 10% which should see the Hoops bank a tidy sum if and when the Norwegian finally moves on.
