Martin O’Neill got off to a winning start in his return to Celtic and will hope to keep the momentum going again.

Celtic beat Dundee United in convincing style as they managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time since O’Neill’s last game in charge of the Hoops.

The next test is a trip to Falkirk on Wednesday night as the Bhoys look to use their game in hand to try and keep the pressure on Hearts and Rangers.

Ahead of the game, the Northern Irishman reflected on that first game back and the moment that stood out the most.

Martin O’Neill singles out Benjamin Nygren for Dundee United goal

While Hyunjun Yang has received plenty of praise and plaudits for the performances in recent weeks, it was Benjamin Nygren’s goal that caught the eye of the interim boss.

He came off the bench to make it 3-0 to the Bhoys with a delicate chip, sitting down the goalkeeper before dinking it over him.

That took his tally to 11 in all competitions for the season, as well as pleasing O’Neill.

How good has Yang been this past month?

“Benjamin’s goal against Dundee United, I felt it was exquisite,” he told Celtic TV.

“It’s really under his feet for a start, he doesn’t panic, he doesn’t fly kick at it.

“It looked very, very simple, but it’s really good goal because he could have thought: ‘I’m only on the field, I’ll just toe this in.’ However, he took it brilliantly.

“Those goals, I think they’re vital, they are vital for confidence, but they’re vital for midfield players.”
