Celtic managed to do something under Martin O’Neill that they never achieved with Wilfried Nancy

Celtic have remembered what it is like to win again following Martin O’Neill’s return to the club.

A 4-0 win against Dundee United was a much-needed boost after the dismal 33-day spell under Wilfried Nancy.

In that period, Celtic only won two of their eight games and churned out plenty of disappointing performances.

Their 90-minute display against the Arabs was arguably the most complete performance of the season, which was proved by the Hoops doing something they never managed to do under Nancy.

How much responsibility should the players take for Nancy’s tenure, given how quickly they seem to have turned it around with Dundee win?

Celtic keep clean sheet in win against Dundee United

Beating Dundee United 4-0 was the exact sort of lift the club needed, both in terms of an attacking and defending.

In fact, the win was the first time Celtic had kept a clean sheet since O’Neill’s last game in charge of the Bhoys, which happened to be a 1-0 win against Dundee.

No clean sheets in eight games is practically unheard of for the Bhoys, but highlights how big the problems were for Celtic.

Kasper Schmeichel has faced calls to be dropped but started and played, looking more comfortable than he has done in previous weeks.

Reverting back to a four-man defence also seemed to pay off as well, with everyone looking like they knew their roles straightaway, allowing the midfielders to focus more on what they are good at.

The simple things work best at Celtic

O’Neill’s tactics were nothing revolutionary but they did the job.

Nancy seemed to overcomplicate anything and everything whereas his replacement went back to basics.

Get the ball down on the floor and play the Celtic way. Use the pace out wide and get balls into the box.

Hopefully a sign of more things to come.
