Martin O’Neill has confirmed once again that he will have no say in the selection process for the new Celtic manager.
The 73-year-old has been working alongside Shaun Maloney on an interim basis while the hierarchy are searching for Brendan Rodgers’ replacement.
O’Neill has won three of the four games in charge, which has sparked some speculation about him being handed the job on a permanent basis.
He has always said that he doesn’t want the role and will leave as soon as his successor is found, but stressed he has nothing to do with who comes in.
Martin O’Neill won’t appoint new Celtic manager
Martin O’Neill on working at Celtic
As it stands, the likelihood of O’Neill remaining in charge until the end of the calendar year seems plausible – especially with the Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren coming up.
However, he is still prepared to walk away when the job is filled, but is leaving that to the Celtic board to decide.
He told BBC Radio Ulster: “I am not party to anything that is happening with the board talking to prospective clients and things like this, nor do I want to be because that’s never been a remit of mine.
“The gentlemen involved can very easily make up their own minds about people without me interfering in any aspect. I said that I would do it until they found that replacement.

“And is that possible for next week? I genuinely do not know. My job was to come in and hold the fort, and the minute that someone is appointed, I will step aside.”
Martin O’Neill for the rest of the season?
67 Hail Hail have previously revealed that O’Neill could stay until the end of the season, and it seems that more supporters are getting on board with the idea.
A summer reshuffle is expected regardless of where the Hoops finish, with many players expected to move onto pastures new.
Not only would that give any incoming manager full scope to sculpt his squad how he wishes, it would also allow the club to take their time in making the perfect appointment.
