67 Hail Hail understands that Martin O’Neill would be willing to stay on as Celtic manager until the end of the season.

O’Neill has made an excellent start to his second spell as Celtic manager, winning both games since taking charge.

The 73-year-old has stated multiple times that this would only be a short-term role and that he has no plans to take the job on a full-time basis, but there may be scope for him to stay on at Parkhead for longer.

Martin O’Neill’s relationship with Dermot Desmond means he is open to staying

Last month, 67 Hail Hail revealed that the Hoops could stick with O’Neill until the end of the season, and we now understand that this could be a genuine possibility.

His relationship with Dermot Desmond is believed to be a crucial part of this idea, with Celtic willing to take their time to find the long-term replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

Gordon Strachan thinks Celtic will wait until December to appoint a manager, but they could hold on if no suitable candidate is found.

After the win against Rangers, the Hoops legend secretly admitted that he would love to lead his beloved club out in the Premier Sports Cup against St Mirren on 14 December, but has no plans to return full-time.

He told TalkSport: “We never mentioned anything about it. I think the board will have some time in the international break, players are away for a fortnight.

“I would imagine that they… I mean, I’m quite sure that they would have thoughts in their head about who they might want to take over.”
