Martin O’Neill tells Jim White ‘don’t be stupid’ as he responds to Celtic question about Dundee game

It looks as though Martin O’Neill will take charge of his final game this week.

Everyone thought Celtic’s game against Hibernian at Easter Road was going to be O’Neill’s final bow after he took interim charge in October.

But O’Neill shared that he is staying on until Dundee on Wednesday night, and that is now expected to be his final match as Celtic manager.

If that is the case, what emotions will the Irishman go through after the full-time whistle at Parkhead? Because there is one thing he certainly won’t do, as he told Jim White in a pretty blunt fashion.

Do you agree with James McFadden?

Martin O’Neill’s come in to do what he’s done and probably exceeded expectation. It was to come in and bring stability back to the team. He’s done that brilliantly, winning games and performances have been great. You can tell what the fans feel about him. He’s a legend. He’s certainly not [tainted his legacy]. You can tell he’s enjoying himself. He’s been exactly what Celtic needed at this time. You can see a team working and fighting for each other. His job was to stabilise the club and put them in a better place, and that’s undoubtedly going to be the case.

Martin O’Neill on whether he will ‘cry’ after Celtic’s game against Dundee

Speaking on talkSPORT, a day after Celtic’s win over Hibernian, Jim White spoke with O’Neill and his current situation.

White asked O’Neill if he would ‘cry’ after the Dundee game, and in typical style, he told the talkSPORT host ‘don’t be stupid,’ to the laughter of the studio.

Jim White: “Are you going to be emotional after the game on Wednesday night against Dundee?”

O’Neill: “You mean, am I going to cry?”

The talkSPORT studio then bursts into laughter, and White adds: “Are you going to cry?”

O’Neill: “Don’t be stupid.”

White: “I am a mophead (It’s what O’Neill previously called the talkSPORT host).”

O’Neill: “Oh, you have remembered that. I do apologise.”

White: “Martin, there is a seat waiting for you here whenever you want to come back. You know that.”

O’Neill’s stats in his second stint as Celtic manager

It probably has gone a lot better than many thought because Celtic were in a mess when Rodgers resigned.

Remember, the Hoops were beaten at Hearts and Dundee, and those losses were deserved. But now Celtic look and are playing like a different beast altogether, thanks to one man.
