The circus that is Celtic right now continues to roll into town as speculation over who will take permanent control of the team after Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney continues.
O’Neill will be in the dugout on Wednesday night with Maloney for Celtic’s next fixture after Brendan Rodgers left the Bhoys late last night.
With the Hoops eight points behind Hearts, O’Neill and Maloney have a job ahead of them to pick up the players after Celtic’s defeat in the capital last weekend.
And as O’Neill gets set to return to management for the first time in six years, what the legendary boss said this week gives insight into what he will be telling the Celtic squad when he arrives at Lennoxtown today.

Martin O’Neill will tell his Celtic players that they ‘just need to settle down’
With Celtic set to face Falkirk tomorrow night, O’Neill and Maloney will be in the dugout for the must-win Parkhead clash.
And speaking to talkSPORT this week, it’s clear what the interim boss is set to tell his new players in the run-up to the match.
O’Neill said of his worries about Celtic, “It’s been a concern of mine for some time about Celtic. Celtic can still play some magnificent football but you’ve got to counter that or add to that by being a bit physical, when teams are physical against you’ve got to be able to do that.
“Brendan is right in the sense of you have 29 games to go, Celtic have been there before.
“They just need to settle down, lost that game [against Hearts] yeah, they’ve lost their way a little bit at this minute, Hearts are riding high, but a long way to go.”
Martin O’Neill’s Celtic win record and Shaun Maloney’s complete managerial record
Every Celtic supporter knows that O’Neill holds legendary status after what he did at the club in the early 2000s.
But how has O’Neill fared in his total Celtic career compared to a relative rookie in Shaun Maloney?
Martin O’Neill’s complete managerial in first Celtic spell
Here is how O’Neill has fared during his first spell at Celtic:
| Martin O’Neill | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Points per 90 |
| Celtic (2000-2005) | 265 | 199 | 26 | 40 | 2.35 |
O’Neill won three league titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup as well as taking Celtic to the 2003 UEFA Cup final.
Interim Celtic boss Shaun Maloney’s complete managerial record
Maloney, compared to O’Neill, is a relatively rookie manager but how has the 42-year-old coach fared as the main man in the dugout?
| Shaun Maloney | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Points per 90 |
| Wigan (2022-23) | 115 | 45 | 27 | 43 | 1.41 |
| Hibernian (2021) | 19 | 6 | 6 | 7 | 1.26 |
With no major honours to his managerial name, Celtic now offers Maloney the chance to put that right but can he do it with the club in turmoil and under pressure?
