It’s going to be a talking point until a final decision is made, and that’s Brendan Rodgers’ contract.

Rodgers enters his final season at Celtic after returning to the club during the summer of 2023, and many are wondering if he signs on the dotted line and extends his stay in Glasgow.

The man himself hasn’t given too much away, as Celtic continue their pre-season plans and preparations for another title defence.

After winning the double in each of his last two seasons, the Celtic Park faithful want Rodgers to continue his legendary stay at the club, and now Martin O’Neill has shared his thoughts.

Martin O’Neill’s Dermot Desmond message amid Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic contract

The man at the top of the tree of Celtic is Dermot Desmond, and O’Neill gave him a mention when being asked about Rodgers’ contract.

Speaking to talkSPORT, O’Neill stated that he expects Celtic’s majority shareholder to be ‘strongly’ involved in Rodgers’ future.

And bearing that in mind, he excitedly claims that Celtic shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

Jim White stated: “Brendan is saying, north of the border, he’s not in too much of a rush to discuss a new deal with Dermot Desmond. Would that be about right? Is he just getting his thoughts together?”

O’Neill responded: “I don’t think there will be any major rush there for that. I think what he has done up there has been terrific.

“In all honesty, if Dermot is involved, which he will be strongly, then I don’t think there is anything to worry about.”

O’Neill then added later on in the show: “I wouldn’t be too worried about the situation, at all. It depends on what Brendan wants to do. I assume Celtic will want to keep him.

“But I have had dealings with Dermot Desmond. Dermot brought me into the football club. If Dermot wants to keep him, he will go out of his way to do so. It’s really as simple as that.”

Rodgers’ Celtic record in numbers

When the dust has settled, it’s going to be interesting to see how Rodgers is viewed by Celtic fans in years and years to come.

That will only come once the Irishman has retired, but over his two spells, it has been beyond dominant, including winning Trebles for fun.
