Martin O’Neill is back at Celtic.

In an incredible turn of events, Brendan Rodgers has resigned from his post at Celtic Park, taking John Kennedy and other coaches with him.

This has left O’Neill and Shaun Maloney to step in and take over the side immediately, with a match against Falkirk coming up on Wednesday before a Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers.

This news emerged late on Monday, but was overshadowed by an incredible Dermot Desmond statement which absolutely slated Rodgers.

But ahead of the Falkirk fixture, O’Neill and Maloney have now been speaking to the media for the first time since the incredible events of Monday.

Maloney broke through into the Celtic side under O’Neill, eventually making a substitute appearance in the UEFA Cup final in 2003.

Maloney eventually followed the Irishman to Aston Villa, and O’Neill still isn’t over how it went.

Speaking at their unveiling at Celtic Park, O’Neill didn’t hold back on how he felt about Maloney’s insistence on returning to Celtic.

He spent just one season under his former Celtic boss in Birmingham before moving back to Glasgow for three years.

He said: “Well, if this had been 20-odd years ago, I would have been dishing out all of the instructions.

“Shaun’s been a manager since, so I’ll have to be careful what I say to him. And I think that he might ideally be giving me instructions. But it’s nice to see him.

“It’s nice, because I took him to Aston Villa and he claimed he was homesick and went back to Celtic – I’ve never really forgiven him. And this is the first time we’ve really met up, other than his time in Belgium.

“I’ve got a lot to say to him now that won’t be positive.”

On this occasion, O’Neill is likely to work with Maloney for one month rather than one season.
