Martin O’Neill has always loved going up against St Mirren and the Celtic manager has the chance to extend an impressive record.

O’Neill’s side beat the Buddies 1-0 in the Scottish Premiership last weekend and face them in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

The 74-year-old has never lost to the Paisley club as the Hoops boss, but another win would extend that record even further.

Should Celtic build a statue of Martin O’Neill outside of Parkhead?

Martin O’Neill’s record vs St Mirren

Out of the six games the Northern Irishman has taken charge of against St Mirren, the Hoops have won six out of six.

In those six games, the Bhoys have kept clean sheets in all of them. Only five other Celtic managers have managed to win their first five games against a side and keep a clean sheet in all of them.

Jock Stein did so against Airdrieonians, David Hay vs Clydebank, Liam Brady against Dundee, Neil Lennon vs St Mirren and Ronny Deila against Partick Thistle.

Achieving five wins in a row is impressive, but shutting out the opposition in all of those only adds to it, and to do it at Hampden Park would be very fitting.

With O’Neill out in front on his own, extending that to seven would only cement his legacy as one of the club’s greatest managers in the club’s history.
