Young Liverpool winger, Ben Doak, is a player who all Celtic fans must look at now with a tinge of regret.
Doak’s name is on the lips of every pundit after the former Celtic academy graduate ripped up trees for Scotland in the wins against Croatia and Poland in the international break.
Now the former Celtic kid is being tipped to become ‘world-class’, ex-Queen of the South manager and Livingston coach, Marvin Bartley, has shared what a coach at Celtic once told him about Ben Doak as he was learning his trade at Lennoxtown.
Liverpool winger Ben Doak was going to be ‘a superstar’ at Celtic
Bartley told Superscoreboard, “No, listen, Celtic would have loved to have kept him. I remember speaking to a Celtic coach maybe four or five years ago, and he said he is the best one. And back then I had no idea who the kid was.
“And obviously seeing him play now, he said he is the best one. He’s been at Celtic for a lot of time. He said he’s the best one that I’ve seen coming through.
“He’ll be a superstar and you kind of take it with a pinch of salt, don’t you, as much as I respect him. Hopefully, he’s not listening.
“But no, listen, Celtic couldn’t have done anything about that. There’s no doubt about it. When Liverpool come in, you have to go. You wouldn’t forgive yourself if you turned that sort of move down.”
Comparing Ben Doak’s playing time at Celtic, Liverpool and Middlesbrough
Doak was always spoken about as being one of the hottest talents to come out of Celtic since Karamoko Dembele.

However, despite Doak banging in goals for fun in the Celtic B team, he just never managed to get as much first-team action as he probably deserved.
But despite a lack of minutes in the senior Hoops team, Doak talked up his experience at Celtic as perfect preparation for his Liverpool move just last year.
So with that in mind, here 67 Hail Hail compares how Doak has fared since he left Celtic to join Liverpool and how he is doing on loan at Middlesbrough.
| Played | Goals | Assists | Minutes on pitch | |
| Celtic | 2 | 0 | 0 | 25 |
| Liverpool | 10 | 0 | 0 | 307 |
| Middlesbrough | 10 | 1 | 3 | 688 |
| Scotland | 6 | 0 | 1 | 321 |
