Celtic interim manager John Kennedy has warned against an overcorrection and panic from the club as they attempt recovery in the wake of losing the Scottish Premiership title.
Yesterday’s draw against Dundee United confirmed Rangers as champions – a painful end to a near-decade of dominance from the Bhoys.
It leaves Celtic with soul searching to do, as well as a lot of work to put the club in a position to challenge next season.
Steven Gerrard’s team have been miles ahead of us this term. As hurtful as it is to recognise that, facing up to the truth is the only way the club can get better.
Kennedy though has warned against making too many changes, speaking to media in the wake of the title defeat.
As quoted by The Glasgow Times, the interim boss responded when asked how the club recover: “That’s a decision for the board and how they structure things and what they want to change, but ultimately it’s about having the core group there and adding to that and getting better and improving.
“I think there is always panic in these moments and it can be very emotional at times, especially in the city of Glasgow where it is always Celtic and Rangers, when one wins and the other doesn’t there is a setback and everyone gets so concerned by it.
“Yes, there have been concerns this year have to address, but massive overhauls don’t often work so we have to be stable in terms of the end of the season. We know what we have to fix and we have to make sure we fix it.”
There’ll be concern about John Kennedy Celtic recovery comments
Playing down the scale of what needs to happen at Celtic probably isn’t going to go down well with Celtic supporters right now. It certainly doesn’t chime with how I’m feeling.
I’d suggest most want the massive overhaul at the club this summer. Even if the changes come too late to impact next season, it could set us up correctly for years to come.

A lot of things feel broken at the club right now – from the squad’s attitude to recruitment to the relationship with fans. There’s a really solid argument to tear it all up, hit the reset button and start again.
Perhaps that’s not on the cards though. If Kennedy is already playing down the scale of the overhaul, we could be in for a long six months.
In other news, Celtic fans have laughed off yesterday’s daft Rangers plane stunt.
