Matt O’Riley is having an outstanding season for Celtic and he took it up another level against St Johnstone on Sunday.

That first-half display in Perth wasn’t what the doctor ordered, but Celtic stuck its chest out and showcased its true colours in the second half.

And during the crunch moments, after sensational build-up play from the Celtic players, Matt O’Riley scored one of the goals of the season to put the team ahead.

But now the Denmark international has promised Alistair Johnston, via his Instagram story, that he will score from one of his crosses this season.

That’s something for the Celtic fans to look forward to because there are some very good relationships building out on the pitch.

Perhaps the most exciting one has been Matt O’Riley himself and Kyogo Furuhashi.

And if it wasn’t for the team’s dismal Champions League display, then that would have been highlighted more on Europe’s biggest stage.

Nonetheless, following Celtic’s 3-1 win at St Johnstone, this was the message Matt O’Riley sent to Alistair Johnston.

Matt O’Riley makes a promise to Celtic teammate

‘I promise I will score from one of your crosses soon,’ wrote the midfielder.

Matt O’Riley getting better and better

What a season it has been for the 23-year-old who is just getting better and better.

On one hand, Celtic probably know what is coming next summer and that’s big-money clubs wanting to sign O’Riley.

From one aspect, it’s a very good thing because it proves how well he is performing, but on the other, you want the squad to remain as strong as possible.

Especially after how the team performed in Europe this season, the squad needs to get stronger, not weaker, even if the club would get a lot of money from his possible sale.

But that new contract which was signed in September is perhaps a sign of how serious the club is moving forward.
