You’ve all seen the video by now. Even Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has seen it. Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist laughing on talkSPORT as news of the Australian’s first link to the Bhoys emerged last year.
McCoist is chuckling away as Brazil nearly blows a gasket at the update he didn’t have a UEFA licence.
In Australian media circles, it’s been circulated as evidence of the ignorance awaiting Postecoglou in Scotland when he made the decision to join Celtic. Rather embarrassing, truth be told.
It was mocked on TV over there as recently as this week when Postecoglou himself was a guest on a talk show.
Today, as Celtic sit three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with a Scottish League Cup in the trophy cabinet already this season, it’s fair to say McCoist has changed his tune.
In fact, he admitted ‘through gritted teeth’ on Sky Sports this afternoon that our boss has done a magic job since arriving from Japan.
McCoist said: “I’ve got to say Ange Postecoglou has done a wonderful job so far at Celtic. I say that of course through gritted teeth but respect where it’s due.
“He’s done a great job there and has continued to do a great job, so we’ve really got a title race on our hands here in Scotland for the first time in a while. I think it’s going to go all the way to the wire.”
He’s not laughing right now and I expect there are plenty of Celtic performances ahead that will cause him concern.
Nothing is guaranteed in the title race of course. But this is another nice reminder of just how satisfying it would be to see Postecoglou lift the Scottish Premiership trophy after being written off by so many, so soon.
They were expecting another season of having it easy. Instead what they got was huge green and white progress.
