Micah Richards and Gary Lineker make ‘lively’ claim about Celtic hero Kasper Schmeichel v Scotland

Celtic’s number one goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, will experience a rather odd feeling at Hampden on Tuesday evening.

Usually, when Schmeichel is playing on Scotland’s home stage, it’s for Celtic, he’s winning most of the time, and getting cheered by at least half of the crowd.

That was proven when Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup semi-final last month, as the experienced shot-stopper will now be the enemy as Scotland host Denmark in a winner-takes-all World Cup qualifier.

Given that so much is on the line, it has got a lot of people talking, including Micah Richards and Gary Lineker on their latest The Rest is Football podcast.

Celtic hero Kasper Schmeichel playing for Denmark against Scotland

Richards wanted to mention the Celtic connection in this blockbuster and pressure cooker of a game for Scotland against Denmark.

The former defender thinks it’s going to be a ‘lively’ encounter because Schmeichel plays for Celtic, and could now stop Scotland from reaching the 2026 World Cup with Denmark.

Lineker then pointed out that he will ‘definitely’ be watching the game, as Scotland need to win to reach the World Cup stage for the first time since 1998.

Richards: “You mentioned Scotland v Denmark. But that would be Kasper Schmeichel in Scotland, wouldn’t it?!”

Lineker: “Correct. Where he plays for Celtic, obviously.”

Richards: “Where he plays for Celtic, so that could be lively. I will be watching that game, for sure.”

Lineker: “I will definitely be watching that game.”

Schmeichel’s record at Hampden

Being on the big stage and in such a pressurised environment won’t faze Schmeichel, as he has been used to it in his career, and for Celtic.

Schmeichel will be back at Hampden next month when Celtic bid to win the League Cup, as Stephen Robinson’s St Mirren stand in their way.

But how does Schmeichel’s record at Hampden fare?
