BBC pundit Michael Stewart felt that Odsonne Edouard was out of sorts for Celtic against Riga, but he feels that the upcoming game against Hibernian could see the player back to his best, the Scottish Sun reports.
Edouard had a quiet game for the Hoops in the Europa League clash. He found it hard to find space, and often found himself crowded out by ranks of Riga players. It was no shock to see him eventually substituted.
Stewart was concerned by Edouard’s display, but he feels that he will be up for the challenge posed by the Easter Road side.
“He (Edouard) hasn’t looked engaged, or anywhere near at it” Stewart began, writing in his column in the Scottish Sun.
“Might well respond to that”
“But, for me, Hibs might be just the type of game that will get Edouard’s juices going once again. Hibs’ clash with Rangers last weekend was probably the most enjoyable game of the season so far. There was an edge to it…Edouard might well respond to that and put in the kind of performance we haven’t seen recently” he concluded.
If we take a look at the Riga game firstly, Edouard wasn’t all that bad. Okay, he has had loads of much better games for Celtic. But it wasn’t a night for Edouard’s type of football. He wasn’t given the chance to find space and express himself. That is as much down to Riga’s stuffy tactics as it was down to Celtic’s performance.
No need to worry about Hoops talent
There is no need to panic about Edouard, he will be fine this season. He has already scored five goals in seven appearances don’t forget. That is a good return for a player that has struggled with injuries.
Now on to the Hibernian game. There is no doubt that the Easter Road side were impressive in their recent 2-2 draw with Rangers. They will provide a stern test for Celtic.
However, if Edouard can up his game as Stewart suggests he will then the Hoops should be good enough to get the three points. Then the worrying over Edouard’s performances can stop, at least for a short time.
In other news, Chris Sutton doesn’t think Edouard will try to leave Celtic in the current transfer window.
