Michael Stewart delivers his BBC Sportsound verdict on Boli Bolingoli and Celtic situation

Pundit Michael Stewart doesn’t think Boli Bolingoli will ever play for Celtic again, speaking live to BBC Radio Scotland earlier tonight (17:16).

As we know, Bolingoli landed himself in hot water with the club, fans and Scottish Government after a secret trip to Spain last week.

Failing to self-isolate following his return, he would also go on to take part in Sunday’s match against Kilmarnock.

The fall-out has been dramatic with authorities postponing both our game against St Mirren tomorrow and against Aberdeen at the weekend.

This really puts pressure on the Bhoys’ schedule and could see us fall as many as 11 points behind others in the division before we next play, albeit with games in hand.

Stewart, who has recently been a guest of the club on Celtic TV, is of course pretty appalled with the situation.

He thinks the Belgian defender has effectively ended his career at Celtic Park.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland (17:16), he said: “I would imagine that Boli Bolingoli’s future at Celtic is very much done. I would be astonished if he plays again for Celtic.

“I don’t think anybody can try to defend his position.

“Equally, there’s part of me that tries to find a bit of empathy and understanding, but I am struggling to find anything that would mitigate what he has done.

“We really have to get our house in order here. There are so many people’s jobs on the line within the footballing industry and there are probably clubs on the line as well.”

Although the pundit’s comments are scathing, it’s really hard for me to disagree with his conclusion.

I hate slagging off Celtic players. I like giving everyone chances to prove themselves. That’s something my late, great Granda taught me.

However, in this case, there’s really no excusing Bolingoli.

I think it’s preferable for everyone if the left-back doesn’t have a future in the squad and hopefully the club can do a bit of business in the transfer market to bring in another player.

With only Greg Taylor available on that flank, we don’t have much depth.

But Bolingoli, clearly, isn’t the answer.
