Michael Stewart says Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic will beat Rangers to the Premiership title this season.
Not only does Michael Stewart think that Celtic will win the title, but he doesn’t even think Rangers will challenge their rivals.
In the summer, there was a lot of talk from the other side, especially given their spending during the summer.
But within months, Michael Beale was out of the door and Rangers had egg on their face – Micah Richards says the ex-Rangers man picked the ‘wrong battle’.
And even though Philippe Clement has made a strong start, Michael Stewart thinks the title will still be heading to Celtic, as he told Sportscene.
The gap is currently eight points at the top of the table, with Celtic having played a game extra, but the gap is still healthy.
Nonetheless, this was the reality Michael Stewart dished out to Rangers about winning the title this season.
Celtic backed to win the title
“St Mirren are only six points behind Rangers, maybe they can get themselves into the title race,” joked Stewart.
“It was a big game that Rangers have dropped points in. I don’t see Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side dropping enough points for Rangers to go immaculately through the season to get themselves into the fight for it.
“I think Celtic will win the title. But under Philippe Clement, Rangers have improved, but I don’t see it as enough to challenge for the title.”
Response needed from Celtic
That’s two games that would have deflated the players and the fanbase – the dropped points at home to Motherwell and the defeat to Lazio last night.
It’s another post-Christmas without Europe and, hopefully, it will be a kick up the backside to the powers that be to spend in January – John Hartson reacted to the loss.
Not just in the winter, but next summer also. If the boats aren’t pushed out, then it will be the same old story next season.
Rodgers, Ange Postecoglou or anybody else. When it comes to Europe, they need more help if there is to be progression.
