‘Wrong’: Micah Richards highlights Michael Beale’s huge Celtic mistake after Rangers sacking

Micah Richards says sacked Rangers manager Michael Beale picked the ‘wrong battle’ by deciding to have a war of words with Celtic hero, Chris Sutton.

The duo were involved in a few verbals back in February, with Chris Sutton having the last laugh as he labelled Steven Gerrard’s former assistant as a ’comedy act’ once he got the boot.

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards thinks that Michael Beale should have just ‘focused on the football’ and not what was being said by Celtic legends, as he told The Rest is Football Podcast.

It’s all good doing the talking off the pitch. There was a lot of that from Rangers during their spending spree this summer.

But you have got to back it up on the pitch. It was pretty obvious when an injury-hit Celtic side beat Rangers at Ibrox that Micael Beale’s days were numbered.

About three times he was booed off the pitch this season by the Ibrox fans, which says it all, with Richards sharing his thoughts.

Michael Beale and Chris Sutton

“It’s a strange one for me because Michael Beale was talked about as a great coach,” said Richards.

“When he was at QPR ‘was he staying? Or was he going?’ And he was at Aston Villa with Steven Gerrard. I thought with the way his teams played, on the front foot and the way he spoke in interviews. I thought he would go there and have a real good success.

“He got in a few squibbles with Chris Sutton on Twitter. He said something about Chris because Chris is Celtic and he is commenting on the games up in Scotland now.

“He got drawn into that when perhaps he should have just focused on the football side of it. He put more pressure on himself, more than anything. Anytime he was in a press conference. They were picking out little words and the pressure was getting to him and all that sort of thing. I think he picked the wrong battles. He should have just concentrated on the way his side wanted to play.”

A lot of talk, no action

The heat in the Glasgow kitchen can make you do weird things. But you have got to back it up, or else, you will get swallowed up.

Celtic have the trophies, the Trebles and the wins in the Glasgow derbies to stick their chests out as much as they want.

The fact that the other side was talking loudly well before lifting any silverware was hilarious and now it’s proven to be comical.
