Michael Stewart says Paul Tisdale’s arrival at Celtic forced club legend out

Paul Tisdale is the latest person at Celtic to come under fire right now.

As Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic struggles continue, the Frenchman will be hoping that a win against Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen will be enough to save his job for the time being.

But Celtic’s struggles are deeper than Wilfried Nancy. The recruitment policy the fans have watched unfold has been shambolic, at the very least.

And at the heart of that is Celtic’s head of operations, Paul Tisdale.

The proclaimed ‘football doctor’ arrived at Celtic at the turn of the year and Michael Stewart says Tisdale’s appointment effectively forced a club legend out the door which had a big effect on the recruitment strategy.

Paul Tisdale’s appointment ‘ostracised’ John Kennedy at Celtic

John Kennedy left Celtic almost immediately after Brendan Rodgers tendered his resignation at the club.

And Stewart reckons that Tisdale’s appointment sped up Kennedy’s exit this year.

Stewart told BBC Radio Scotland, “I think I’m pretty sure I told you last week, Paul Tisdale came in October, and almost straight away, John Kennedy was ostracised from overseeing or being involved with the recruitment department. He was pushed to the side.

“This is a guy who obviously has been at the club for 26/27 years as a player and a coach, and moving up to a very important role of effectively overseeing and running most of the football department.

“He was a gatekeeper to Brendan Rodgers and Paul Tisdale came in and in what capacity, how he is more experienced, I’ve no idea, but he has managed to be able to move John Kennedy.”

Michael Stewart slams Celtic’s recruitment under Paul Tisdale

Tisdale was supposed to come to Celtic and raise the standards of recruitment at the club but Stewart has slammed the head of operations summer transfer window.

Stewart continued, “And subsequently, it’s not as if the previous transfer windows were amazing either. But I think we could all say with real certainty that summer transfer window was about as bad as you could expect.

Rate Pauls Tisdale’s performance as Celtic’s head of operations in the comments below.

'In my role I will be doing all I can to further develop our work across talent identification, development and analytics, always with the aim of ensuring high-level support of football performance.'

“I mean, you’re coming to the last day of the window and you’re thinking, they must have big ones lined up.

“They shut the transfer window and they didn’t have a striker! Kelechi Iheanacho came in after the window and they didn’t have a striker!”

Tisdale’s coat must be on a shaky peg as he was also heavily involved in identifying Wilfried Nancy as Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic successor.

There is a recruitment sickness at Celtic right now, and whether or not Tisdale can prescribe the right antidote to cure that is under the microscope for the Parkhead support.
