Michael Stewart shares what Rangers fans told him at Hampden about facing Celtic in League Cup final

Celtic now know that they will face Rangers in the League Cup final next month after the Parkhead side took care of Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Hoops punished Aberdeen 6-0 with goals from hattrick hero, Daizen Maeda added to by Kyogo Furuhashi, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Nicolas Kuhn.

Rangers beat Motherwell on Sunday to meet Celtic in the final and Michael Stewart has shared what the Ibrox supporters sitting next to him at Hampden told him about the prospect of meeting Brendan Rodgers’ team next month.

Michael Stewarts says Rangers fans fear a Celtic ‘drubbing’

Stewart was on commentary duty for Premier Sports at the Rangers game and as Philippe Clement’s team went in at half-time 1-0 down, Stewart said that the Ibrox support seemed happy at losing so they didn’t have to play Celtic in December.

Stewart told The Scottish Football Social Club, “I mean look anything can happen in a cup final you know somebody could get sent off you could get a penalty kick, a deflection goes off somebody’s knee and then you can hang on to something so you can never write it off completely.

“But I tell you from a few of the Ranger supporters that were around me I’ve spoken to there was a nervousness about them.

“They’re nervous about even going to the cup final and this was at halftime. They were almost thinking well if we don’t make the cup final at least we’re not going to end up on a drubbing and I was thinking to myself you can’t live like that.”

Celtic have enjoyed almost total domination over Rangers since 2012 as the Parkhead club racked up trophy after trophy over the last 12 years.
